This is a picture of a rare Goblin Shark caught in the Gulf of Mexico by some shrimpers.
How rare?
NOAA Fisheries Service reported that it was only the second goblin shark of record in the Gulf of Mexico. The first was captured on July 25, 2000, by commercial fishermen in more than 3,000 feet of water.

I find this video odd for a couple of reasons. First, the fact that these somewhat juvenile Great White sharks are swimming so close to the shore. And, that there appears to be 3 of them swimming together. I always understood Great Whites to be solitary hunters. Second, I think it is odd that the filmers don’t seem to be too concerned at the fact that the sharks are investigating them as a potential food source.
Apparently, spotting sharks just yards off the shore of the El Porto section of Manhattan Beach is quite a common event.
I also find it interesting that this video and story has been on the internet for about 6 weeks now but, it is just now starting to trend upwards in interest. Sometimes, interesting videos like this take a while before the ground swell of interest grows to the point of being “viral”. I’m just doing my part. True to the importance of wording and/or tagging a video, this one is described as “Shark Photobombing”.
The Potomac is a river on the Eastern seaboard of the United States that runs north from the Atlantic towards Washington, DC. Catching a shark, any shark, in these waters — very brackish if not very fresh water — is very rare.
Of course, the first thing you should do is kill it and then string it up on a fork list. Then, take pictures!

In describing the incident on her blog on BillabongGirls.com, Campbell remarked:
“I was collecting shells along the beach with my mum. Searching the white sand while crystal water lapped at my ankles, I was shocked to find my worst nightmare dominating the shoreline a mere 400m ahead… Picture about thirty sharks, most of which seemed to be tiger sharks, all destroying a whale laying only a few feet from the shore. The nightmare part was the mass of sharks devouring the one victim.”
