The Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation(NRK) has put up some striking photos of water off the coast of Lovund, a small island off of Norway. Though it was “only” -7.8°C (18 °F), a sharp eastern wind was enough to freeze a large quantity of fish in place.
Look as if the fish were being chased by a predator and were trapped. Surprisingly, being frozen in water is the fourth leading cause of death for moose , too!

I love albino animals. Until now, I didn’t know albinism was capable in fish. Check out this picture of a giant albino catfish.
If you’ve ever fished off-shore you know that seeing a bait ball means you are about to hook up some fish. Check out this picture of a huge bait ball spotted by helicopter. For a perspective, that “fish” in the lower right of the picture is a humpback whale!
A common practice when fishing large game fish is to back up the boat to reduce strain on the line as you try to reel the big fish in. If you don’t know what you are doing you can have a serious situation on your hands very quickly. This boat captain is without a boat after this hook up. Apparently, the boat now resides at the bottom of the drink.
