My daughter and I witnessed a doe run into the ocean at surfers beach in Half MOON BAY CALIFORNIA YESTERDAY MORNING. She was turned upside down in the surf and then eventually got herself turned upright and proceeded to swim out into the sea at least a quarter of a mile then started swimming south about a half mile and finally back to the beach. We were amazed ! She was out in deep water for at least 30 minutes and during that time had the attention of many on the beach the harbor patrol and the local sheriff .

I reserached and this happened in the Gulf of Mexico off Maryland in August 2007. The 2 fisherman did haul deer into their boat but they brought it to a beach, left it there weak and shivering and unable to stand. No one knows what happened as they never called Fish and Wildlife or anyone else to help the animal….
    That a SEMI rescue…

To bad there is no such thing as pool winter covers or any other covers for the ocean. Poor deer.

In 1998 I was 1.5 miles off the Hollister Ranch in CA in my boat with 3 guys. We were blasting along heading North to the spot we wanted to surf when I see what registered in my head as a kangaroo swimming in the ocean. After about 2 seconds it hit me that they dont have them here and they don’t swim. I turned around. When we cameback around we witness this DOE head sticking his head up looking at us for about 3-4 seconds and then go under. We could not find it after that. It was so strange we never spoke about it or reported it. I concluded it had gone crazy and swam into the ocean.

Hi , my brother and myself witnessed 2 roe deer running into the north sea at Carnoustie near Dundee in Scotland on 10th june 2012, they swam out to sea until barely visible then about turned, around half to three quarters of a mile out. They made it safely back to shore after about half an hour at sea, rested for 2 minutes then ran along the sandy beach back to the trees where they came from. We still dont know the reason for this, if anyone can help please do ,thanks George..

I was walking in Malibu this morning and under some houses on the beach was a big deer. I don’t know how it got on the beach. It’s fenced all around. Just as I spotted the deer, so did my friend’s dog. I tried to stop the dog, but she chased the deer into the sea. I kept thinking the deer would turn back to shore, but I saw its big satellite ears get smaller and smaller. I called the lifeguard station. They came out and looked for it. Sent a boat. But by the time the boat got there, it had been 30-40 minutes. I never took my eyes off the water. That deer headed straight for the horizon and did not look back. One of the saddest things I’ve ever seen – that deer’s ears getting smaller and smaller and then nothing. Poor thing. Tore me up.
